What is BRD?

Bovine Respiratory Disease

Bovine Respiratory Disease (BRD) is one of the most common and economically significant diseases affecting the cattle industry worldwide. Rather than a single illness, BRD is a complex condition caused by interactions between bacterial and viral pathogens, environmental conditions, animal management practices and stress factors such as transport, weaning and changes in feed or housing.

The disease can affect cattle of all ages but is particularly prevalent in young and recently transported animals. Clinical signs may include coughing, nasal discharge, fever, reduced appetite, lethargy and impaired growth. If left untreated, BRD can lead to severe lung damage, reduced productivity and increased mortality rates.

Targeted on-farm interventions with phages

AgriCureX pioneers evidence-based phage therapies to combat bovine respiratory disease (BRD). Targeted on-farm interventions with phages offer a precise and sustainable approach to managing bacterial pathogens in agricultural settings. By using naturally occurring bacteriophages that specifically target harmful bacteria, farmers can reduce disease pressure, improve animal health and productivity, and minimise reliance on antibiotics. This targeted strategy supports biosecurity outcomes while helping to promote more resilient and sustainable farming systems.
